How the book labels what it says.

• ScriptureA passage from the Bible, given with its reference. The book quotes the American Standard Version unless it names another translation. The verse at the head of each chapter is the author's own rendering, held close to the Greek.

  And this is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.

• Word studyWhat a word meant in the language it was written in, Hebrew or Greek, or in the older English of a translation. A word study does not by itself settle interpretation.
• InterpretationThe author's reading of a passage or an idea. It is offered as his understanding, can be disagreed with, and is never a promise about what will happen to a reader.
• TestimonyWhat happened to the author, told as he remembers it, with its dates and qualifiers kept. It is his witness, not a pattern, proof, or promise for anyone else.
• QuotationsA short quotation from another writer, naming the author and work where it appears.
• UnresolvedAn open question stated as unsettled instead of rounded up into an answer or silently omitted.

Every claim points back to the passage it came from, in the current version of the book. Corrections are kept, dated, in place.
